Canada/US Border Issues

The Canadian UN Refugee Agency continues to update their factsheets for asylum seekers on a regular basis - English & French

Regarding the new temporary U.S.-Canada border agreement (in place for the past three weeks)
While the Canadian government has given assurances that asylum seekers turned back to the U.S. will not be refouled by the U.S. authorities while they wait to be called back to the Canadian border, the terms of the agreement have not yet been finalized.

In the mean time, it has been reported that between 21 March (date of border closure) and April 6, six persons have attempted to claim asylum at the U.S.-Canada border (2 in British Colombia, 2 in Ontario and 2 in Quebec) and have been returned to the U.S. The 2 in Quebec had attempted to cross the border irregularly.
